Mycotoxins
Mycotoxin testing measures the presence and levels of mycotoxins produced by molds and other fungi growing in or around cannabis. Identifying the presence of mycotoxins in client products helps to ensure that consumers are not exposed to unsafe products.

Clinical Science Laboratory tests for 5 mycotoxins. These include the following: Aflatoxin B1, Aflatoxin B2, Aflatoxin G1, Aflatoxin G2, Ochratoxin A. By utilizing a combination of LC-QTOF-MS-MS and LC-MS-MS-MS, we deliver the most accurate results down to parts-per-billion, despite a challenging matrix.

Mycotoxins are toxins produced by various types of molds and other fungi. Cannabis plants grow best in warm, damp conditions and share this characteristic with fungi – thus it isn’t too uncommon to find them growing amongst these plants. Mycotoxins produced by the fungi seep into the soil and water which is then absorbed into the cannabis plants. Mycotoxins which persist in client products at this late stage of testing can pose a serious threat to humans. Short-term effects can range from acute poisoning to allergic reactions, while longer-term consequences can result in cancer or even death. Clinical Science Laboratory can detect and quantify levels of mycotoxins in hemp samples to help ensure the maximum safety of the product.
